Herman Miller Eames Aluminum Group Executive Chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames
Eames Aluminum Group Executive Chair (Model EA337) by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. Vintage 80s/90s examples in black leather on 5-star base
The Aluminum Group Collection began as a project for Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard in 1958, who required seating for a home they were designing for industrialist J. Irwin Miller in Columbus, Indiana. The technical innovation of the comfort pocket is owed to the original prototype. The original Aluminum Group Chairs were indoor-outdoor creations. They were upholstered in mesh, which made them easy to use outdoors without getting ruined. They were supported by polished aluminum, and that made them attractive and modern. They were shaped in a beautiful curve, and that made them classically stylish chairs. Immediately, almost everyone involved saw that these chairs were perfect for leather upholstery.
Good to Very Good vintage condition - refinished arms, but like all Aluminum Group chairs, there is oxidation under the clearcoat to the aluminum base.
New examples sell for $2,800 CAD - http://grshop.com/herman-miller-eames-aluminum-group-executive-chair.html
